Easy Escape

Well, I tunneled out of the rehab on Fri, the 17th. After 11 days there, I was almost as crazy as the day I had the meltdown in the Dr’s office!!

Everyone has their own TV. And since they are ALL on loud volume, due to not being able to hear it, cuz ALL the other TVs are on high volume, I really think I’m deaf now!! My remote, and my roommate’s remote, worked both TVs. VERY annoying when I wanted to watch TV, at first! Not after the first day!! She’d click hers, and mine would change channels too!! Can you imagine?? The 4th night, we had a tall male nurse. I begged him to unplug mine!! The plug was about 7 ft up the wall, but he managed to do it. I thanked him so profusely, I almost kissed his hand!

However, it did come in handy when she’d fall asleep, and I’d turn hers off!

Not to mention the “Screamer!” 4x or more a day, when she needed changing, she’d scream her head off about they were hurting her. But, get this, she refused any pain meds!! Was she crazy?? She had the CNAs in tears at times. Every time she started screaming, I prayed for her healing, and that Jesus would take the pain away. But I really believe He expects us to use common sense!

All the staff were really great! So many of them were Christians, and we could talk about God, and Jesus! So cool!

And the food was excellent till Fri lunch. Fish sandwich, cream corn, and plain white rice, that tasted leftover for days. Not a happy girl!

Don’t mess with my food!! But, I did have potato soup, salad, cottage cheese, and a banana. So, even tho I was on starvation rations, I knew I’d live.

That night was even worse!! No entre!! Just half cup soup, 1 small square cornbread, 2 packs saltines, and a tiny sliver of cake that you could see thru!! That’s all my roomie had! To make matters worse, she spilt her soup! I was so sorry for her! I gave her the chips I had squirreled away, and my banana. My potato soup, cottage cheese, and banana were extras that were always on my tray. So, in other words, I didn’t get a regular meal at all!! You better believe I made some noise!!

She looks too happy to be screaming!!

No, I kept my calm, cuz ya catch more flies with honey than vinegar. So, our CNAs went and got us grilled cheeses.

I asked to speak to the admin, whoever was on duty. Finally a lady named Angelina came down. She apologized, and said, “Well, the meals are planned on a 2k calorie per day.” I said , No, none of the other dinners were this hideous! I didn’t even get a meal at all!! And you can’t expect people to go to bed hungry like this! “Well, you can call down to the kitchen and order something else, off our snack menu.” How can I do that pray tell, when the phones have not been working the whole 5 days I’ve been here???? And later when I asked the CNAs, they weren’t even aware there was a written snack menu!!

So, I asked for a grievance form. Buddy, I went to town!! Politely of course. On Mon. Dietician Brittany comes in and apologizes. She was off, one of the cooks had quit. Ok, I can understand that. So, I signed the grievance was resolved.

By George!! As if in retaliation, this Friday’s evening meal was worse. 2 slabs of white bread, 1 piece bologna, and 1 piece of cheese. I was mad again!! But, I had my potato soup, and salad this time, so I kept quiet. By this time, I figured if I said anything else, all the kitchen staff would spit in my food! No thanks!

So, I finally made it out at 1:20, Monday. Whew! First thing, I made DH drive thru Steak n Shake!! I was starving!! Fish sandwiches every Fri are a killer!!

So good to be home, sweet home.

But, an announcement about that coming soon….
